Capital Blossom Walk for National Walking Day

  • North End of the Capitol Mall Salem, OR USA (map)

Just Walk Salem-Keizer invites everyone to join us for a celebration of spring at the Oregon State Capitol. Meet us at the north end of the Oregon Capitol Mall on Saturday, April 2 at 10:00 a.m. for a 1.5 mile walk around the capitol grounds as we learn about some of the plants that contribute to the beauty of the capitol grounds. This is a free event; we will walk at a leisurely pace on a flat, paved surface. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to come along.

Meet at 10:00 at the north end of the Oregon Capitol Mall State Park near the Sprague Fountain; you’ll know it’s us by looking for our neon green t-shirts, bandanas, or (if necessary) umbrellas.  We will be joined by an Oregon State Parks Ranger, who will share information about some of the more significant plantings in the park. The event is expected to last about an hour. Capitol-area parking meters are not monitored on Saturdays, and free parking is also available at the Saturday Market parking lot just across Center Street from our meeting place.

Just Walk Salem-Keizer is a group that has encouraged community engagement for more than 10 years. We believe that, just by getting outside to walk and talk with neighbors, we can all do our bit to make Salem a more livable city. We sponsor free regularly scheduled weekly walks in neighborhoods throughout Salem; coordinate special walks, like April’s Blossom Walk, that focus on a local theme; and partner with other community groups to encourage folks to open their front doors, step outside, and—Just Walk! For more information visit our website at justwalksalem.com. We’re also on Facebook, Instagram, and Meet Up.
